LASIK: How does LASIK work?

The lasik procedure consists of two steps. In the first step, Dr. Hirsch creates a flap or a thin layer of the cornea using an Intralase™ FS laser, then he uses a cool beam laser to reshape the underlying cornea, and finally the flap is put back in place. This flap acts as a natural bandage accelerating the healing process and putting to use the extraordinary bonding properties of the human eye . Because very little of the eye's tissue is disturbed, patients report a high comfort level after the procedure, and visual acuity is rapidly improved.

LASIK Step 1:
Dr. Hirsch creates a thin flap with the Intralase laser. The flap is folded back, while remaining hinged.
LASIK Step 2:
The excimer laser is applied to correct your vision.
LASIK Step 3:
The protective flap is folded back in place. The flap naturally bonds with the eye.
